Valley Daily News Carriers 1904-1942

Valley Daily News News Carriers, 1904-1942 extracted by Local History Department Staff of Community Library of Allegheny Valley

Copyright 2006 Community Library of Allegheny Valley

This list of 244 news carriers for the Valley Daily News — both former and then present — was extracted from “News Carrier Boys of Former Years Found in All Walks of Life; Many Serving Overseas in Armed Forces,” Valley Daily News, 10 October 1942, pp. 1-2, 11.

“The Valley Daily News gives recognition today to those faithful ‘little merchants’ who, past and present, have carried evening issues into valley homes for more than 38 years.

“In connection with National Newspaper Week, The News has compiled a list of former carriers through voluntary contributions of names.

“Success has been realized in obtaining full data on the first four carrier boys, who served in 1904. A large number of names of other former carriers has been procured and discloses that many substantial, adult citizens were former News’ carriers. Many ex-newspaperboys are in training camp or actually on the fighting fronts. Lastly, but certainly not the least in value, is a list of present newspaperboys. The lists are published herewith:”*
